OCO French Translator (Short Term)
The Oceania Customs Organization (OCO) has 23 independent, self-governing, and territories Customs jurisdictions in the Pacific. Established in 1986, its mandate is to promote effectiveness and efficiency of Customs administrations in the harmonization and simplification of Customs procedures, facilitation of trade, law enforcement, and building the capacity of members in meeting the development objectives of their Governments.
The Conference in October 2020 led to OCO establishing a platform whereby OCO is to ensure gender equality is embedded in all aspects of the OCO work program. Promoting gender equality within Customs promotes fundamental rights, inclusive policies, and processes that are important and contribute greatly towards achieving Customs reforms and adapting to the increasing challenges associated with globalization.
The IWD 2021 campaign theme is #ChooseToChallenge. To support the campaign theme, OCO is driving a campaign collating and publishing profiles of tremendous and successful Women in Customs in the region. All profiles will be treated like a press release and issued to all media companies in the region. For the full benefit of French Territories members in achieving the objective of this campaign, all press releases will be translated to French.
The French Translator will be under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager. He/she through proficient translation skills will assist in enhancing and promoting gender equality and the tremendous success of Women in Customs in the Pacific.
The French Translator will work closely with the Communication Consultant and under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager for 12 working days.
Responsibilities and Outputs
The responsibilities and key outputs of the French Translator include the following:
i. Reading all published profiles of tremendous and successful women in customs in the region;
ii. Translate to French the campaign and publications covering the role of successful women in customs in the region;
iii. Translate to French all profiles (close to 20) of women in customs before it is issued to all media companies in the region;
iv. Writing and editing copies of all translations;
v. Preparing summaries of press releases; and
vi. Any other translation of the document into French in connection with this activity.
The Translator must have the relevant qualifications and experience in translating English to French. He/She must have done French translation work for Non-Government Organisations. He or she must be proficient in both English and French.
